Pp.24+108, 44 original full page size line Illustrations, 58 Original Arabic & Persian Inscriptions of Delhi, 5 Appendices and tables
This is English translation of Sir Sayyid Ahmed Khan’s famous Urdu work on the monuments of Delhi, the ATHAR-AL-SANADID, which was first published in the year 1846. It dealt with nearly 160 Monuments of Delhi built between 1192 and 1846. Sayyid Ahmed’s original scheme has been simplified to be useful to the reader and the work has been made uptodate with comprehensive notes and references; 44 of Mirza Shah Rukh Beg Musawwir’s Original Drawings, printed through woodcuts, have also been reproduced. Original inscriptions which Sayyid Ahmed had collected assiduously and some of which are no longer extant have also been reproduced. Ahmed’s chronology and architectural narrative have been repaired and, as needed in an English translation, correct technical architectural terms have been substituted.
