D. V. SHARMA

Pp.92, Plates 57, Figures 17

The Ibadat Khanah which Akbar founded at Fatehpur Sikri for religious and philosophical discussions was one of his greatest and the most famous institutions. It culminated in the establishment of the Din-i-Ilahi (1582) and doctrine of Sulh-i-Kul. But in spite of consistent efforts for more than a century, its actual site had not been traced. In this book Dr Sharma has traced, identified and established the Ibadat-Khanah and discussed its Institution, Situation and Composition.

Chapters:

1. The Institution of the ‘Ibadat Khanah’
2. Situation of the Ibadat Khanah
3. Composition of the Ibadat Khanah
4. Archaeological Analysis of the Recent Claims of its identification
